Severe Weather Alerts

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS:

1.Red level 10 warning for disruptive rain leading to damage of roads, bridges, properties, infrastructure, danger to life due to fast flowing streams, mudslides and displacement of communities can be expected along the coast (except the extreme southern coast) and adjacent interior of KwaZulu-Natal.

2.Yellow level 4 warning for disruptive rainfall leading to flooding of settlements, roads, bridges and danger to life can be expected over the northern interior of KwaZulu-Natal.

3.Yellow level 4 warning for severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours leading to flooding, large amounts of small hail and gusty winds can be expected over the northern and eastern parts of Mpumalanga and the central and eastern parts of Limpopo.

4.Yellow level 2 warning for isolated severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours, large amounts of small hail and gusty winds expected over Gauteng and the eastern parts of the North West province.

Temperature and UVB forecast

Gauteng:

Temperature: Cloudy and cold with scattered showers and thundershowers from late morning.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Low.

Mpumalanga:

Temperature: Cloudy and cold but cool in the Lowveld, with widespread showers and thundershower but scattered over the southern Highveld.

Limpopo:

Temperature: Cloudy and cold to cool, with widespread showers and thundershowers in the east, otherwise scattered but isolated in the west.

North-West Province:

Temperature: Cloudy and cool to cold, with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers in the eastern and central parts.

Free State:

Temperature: Cloudy and cold to cool, with isolated showers and thundershowers in the east. It will be become partly cloudy in the west.

Northern Cape:

Temperature: Partly cloudy in the east, otherwise fine and cool. Morning mist can be expected over the southern interior.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly reaching strong at times in the afternoon

Western Cape:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and cool but cloudy over the north-eastern parts at times.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be light to moderate southerly to south easterly along the west coast, otherwise moderate to fresh westerly to north-westerly

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Moderate.

Eastern Cape:

The Western half – Cloudy in the morning, otherwise partly cloudy and cold but cool along the coast and adjacent interior.

The Western half -Wind: The wind along the coast will be light and variable in the morning, otherwise light south-westerly.

The Eastern half -Cloudy with isolated showers along the wild coast and adjacent interior in the morning, otherwise partly cloudy and cold but cool along the coast.

The Eastern half -The wind along the coast will be light north-westerly becoming north-easterly by afternoon

Kwazulu-Natal:

Temperature: Cloudy and cool to cold but very cold in the extreme west. Widespread showers and thundershowers are expected in the north-east and along the coast, otherwise scattered but isolated in the extreme south-west.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Low.
