UK weather: ‘Ten day 25C heatwave’ to begin summer

Brits are being told to expect a 10-day heatwave to arrive just in time for beginning of the Great British summer of 2022.

Soaring temperatures are being pencilled in by weather forecasters for the first week of June, with the official beginning of meteorological summer coming on the first day of day of the month.

Months of miserable weather and bad news could soon be forgotten as the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee gives people across the nation an extended four-day weekend to soak up the rays.

Temperatures will begin to warm up from Thursday (May 26), and by Friday (May 27) lucky people in the southwest of England will see the mercury reach 25C.

The warm and bright weather will continue through the national Jubilee celebrations right up until Sunday June 5.

Forecaster Phil Morrish explained that a high-pressure pattern building across Britain would be behind the warm temperatures, and told Daily Express: “As we go towards the Jubilee week, air pressure looks like it is starting to rise.

“By next Saturday it’s starting to build across the UK, which will bring some finer warm and sunny conditions with temperatures next Saturday up to 20C, or 21C and 22C.

In the meantime however things look to be a little more unsettled thanks to the incoming jet stream, with some periods of heavy downpour likely.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Dan Rudman said: “The strengthening of the jet stream increases the chances of low-pressure systems developing over the Atlantic being pushed towards the UK.

“Although there are still some details to be determined on the depth and timings of these lows, what we do know is that there’s some unsettled weather on the way next week, with some strong winds likely from the middle the week, especially in the north.”

No weather warnings are in place for the United Kingdom today (June 23).
