Zwane: It’s unacceptable for a team of Kaizer Chiefs’ caliber

Arthur Zwane’s second interim stint as Kaizer Chiefs’ coach began with a 1-0 loss to Stellenbosch FC on Saturday evening.

As The South African reported on Saturday evening, a Dean Van Rooyen first-half finish was enough to hand Stellies the narrow victory over Amakhosi.

The three points left Steve Barker’s side in sixth position while Kaizer Chiefs remain in fourth place with six more games to the end of the season.

According to Zwane, a team of Kaizer Chiefs’ level is expected to produce a lot more opportunities to score goals.

Ja, I think it was a very interesting game, a good game to watch,” Zwane said in the post-match press conference, as quoted by iDiskiTimes.

“I don’t know what to say when it comes to the way we conceded the goal. Because I think we prepared for that, because we know that they’ve got very explosive players going forward. And that’s why we had to start with three at the back because we wanted to nullify that.

“And unfortunately, we couldn’t create clear cut chances. We can say at least we’ve done our best. Yes, I think in the middle, we match them at some point,” he added.

“But when it comes to goalscoring opportunities, there’s not enough and it’s unacceptable. For a team of Kaizer Chiefs calibre, we need to create chances each and every game we play.

So ja, looking forward to the next game, and it’s not going to be easy, because the games now are coming thick and fast. We’re playing Golden Arrows and also a very difficult team to play at home, but we will try and grind the results and keep on encouraging the boys,” the former winger concluded.

Meanwhile, the club’s outspoken former player Junior Khanye believes Zwane is not yet equipped to take hot seat on a full time basis.

As The South African reported this past week, coach Stuart Baxter and Amakhosi agreed to mutually part ways after a string of poor results and even worse performances.

The Glamour Boys further confirmed that club legend Zwane will take charge as the interim coach until the end of the season, with Dillon Sheppard his assistant. According to Khanye, Zwane needs added experience. Read the full story here.
